Kothbauer has been working as a fitness trainer at Swiss-Ski since 2014. The Austrian is the main person responsible for ensuring that Odermatt is in top physical shape. “They were cool years, not just with Marco, but also with the other team members,” Kothbauer told SRF. «But in my opinion Marco’s potential has been exhausted. That’s why it’s good if someone else comes.”
A new challenge in the ski circus
Kothbauer informed the team of his decision last May. The separation took place at the Austrian’s request: “I pushed for the breakup because I felt a sense of optimism,” emphasizes Kothbauer. The former discus thrower and shot putter would like to take on a new challenge in the ski circus. It is unclear who the successful coach will look after in the future.
Odermatt himself regrets his sponsor’s decision, but can understand it: “I owe him a huge amount, his training methods are absolutely brilliant. But I can very well understand that he is looking for a new challenge,” said the 26-year-old to Blick.
