The motion to lift the immunity of MP Marcin Romanowski was submitted to the Sejm in mid-June. The prosecutor’s office explained that it was related to the investigation conducted into irregularities in the functioning of the Justice Fund.
Let us recall that this case has been widely covered by the media in recent weeks, including including Onet. In the recordings released by the service, one might hearas in the Justice Fund the results of competitions were manipulated when there were millions of zlotys at stake. Romanowski was responsible for the fund.
“The evidence gathered in the case (…) indicates sufficiently justified suspicion that MP Marcin Romanowski committed 11 crimes, including participation in an organized group aimed at committing crimes once morest property, in particular by exceeding one’s authority and failing to fulfill obligations and certifying falsehoods in documents, causing significant damage to the property of the State Treasury in order to gain personal and financial benefits,” the release reads.
The prosecutor’s office added that there are considerable concerns regarding hindering the investigation, which is why she requested the arrest and temporary detention of Romanowski.
On Friday, the Sejm lifted the immunity of MP Marcin Romanowski and consented to his detention and temporary arrest.
After the vote, attorney Bartosz Lewandowski, Marcin Romanowski’s representative, stated on the X portal that his client would voluntarily appear at the National Prosecutor’s Office in the near future despite questioning the status of the prosecutors handling the case, and that Romanowski also consented to the publication of his name and surname in public and to the display of his image.
Then he informed us that he and Marcin Romanowski had appeared at the Prosecutor’s Office to present their position. “We were told that no one might receive us because the prosecutors were busy, “tomorrow is the weekend” and that we might contact them on Monday. The very nice lady from the permit office spoke with the prosecutors and they know regarding our arrival. So why this application for detention and arrest if the case is not that urgent?!” attorney Lewandowski wrote on the X portal.
