Pertamina Enduro VR46 racer Marco Bezzecchi admitted that he was increasingly enthusiastic about facing the main Austrian GP race after he managed to finish in eighth place in the Sprint Race, Saturday (17/8).
“We have to work hard for the main race, but the balance (of the Sprint performance) is generally positive,” said Bezzecchi, quoted from VR46’s official statement, Sunday (18/8).
Starting ninth on the grid, Bezzecchi was involved in a battle at the first corner, which left him in 13th place at the end of the first lap.
“Finally, I decided to start with the medium tyre, it was not an obvious choice, but after the free practices it seemed the best option. I spoke with Michelin, I had doubts, but considering the heat (on Saturday) and the conditions in which the long race would take place, I tried this strategy,” said Bezzecchi.
Able to race well, especially in the final part of the race, he caught up with the group that was fighting for his position at that time.
“I didn’t (do the race) perfectly, maybe with the soft tyre option I would have been better for the Sprint, but I collected a lot of data and maybe I have an advantage for the main race,” said Bezzecchi.

“The sensation was good, although the first corner was not so good, I was on the inside and Alex (Marquez) crashed right in front.
I lost some positions, but then I kept a good pace,” he added.
Finishing in that position earned Bezzecchi two additional points and is in 12th place in the current season standings.
On the other hand, his teammate, Fabio Di Giannantonio was the victim of a high-speed collision that caused his left shoulder to dislocate during a training session on Friday (16/8). He will undergo further medical examinations.
