Marches for 8M in Medellín ended with riots and stun bombs; journalist was attacked

A citizen mobilization, which was on Avenida Oriental, had a run-in with the Police during the marches in commemoration of the International Day for Women’s Rights. In several videos it was recorded how some of the protesters run before the detonation of Esmad stun bombs.

Some of those attending the march have denounced, via social networks, that the mobilization was repressed. “The Esmad on Avenida Oriental, with its repression. Stun bombs to disperse the march. They block us. They won’t let us go,” said user Mary_Mar.

The demonstration is commemorated every March 8. In the videos on social networks, precisely, it is seen that the women in the march tell the police that there are girls present. Complaints and insults are also heard.

The violence escalated with clashes with the police. Amid the riots, a journalist was injured. This is Manuela Granda, who was covering the event for Telemedellín. She and the cameraman who accompanied her were assaulted. The journalist received a blow to the head that opened a wound. Through Twitter, the channel published a video in which the attacks are seen and it was reported that the details of the case will be released in the news.

The Metropolitan Police has not yet ruled on what happened.
