March Madness – Final Four : San Diego State gagne au buzzer !

This is why March Madness is called the March Madness. Last night, in the first game of the Final Four between San Diego State and Florida Atlantic, the Aztecs won by a small point on a Lamont Butler buzzer shot. A look back at an action that has already entered the legend of the famous NCAA tournament.

It’s a moment that Lamont Butler can tell his children one day. With stars in their eyes and a big smile on their lips.

There are about ten seconds left in the semi-final between the San Diego State Aztecs and the Florida Atlantic Owls. The score indicates 71-70 in favor of the latter. After a missed shot from FAU to try to widen the gap to +3, Butler inherits the ball for the ultimate possession. SDS coach Brian Dutcher decides not to take a time-out, “having no more system to offer” in his own words. And the sequel is this.

When possession seemed to go nowhere and Lamont Butler almost put his foot in touch, the young player of the Aztecs was able to take a mid-range shot at the last second, string! 72-71 for San Diego State, which therefore validates its ticket for the grand final on Monday against UConn or Miami. Pure madness!

“The plan was to play the counter-attack. I looked at the clock, I saw that there were only two seconds left, so I took a shot that I feel comfortable with. And I put it on.”
