Marcelo Ebrard, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, announced that the governments of Mexico and Guatemala agreed that 25,000 Guatemalans will contribute to the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).

Via Twitter, Ebrard indicated that the Sembrando Vida program will begin in Chimaltenango, as well as the installation of a new Mexican consultant in Petén.

Ebrard pointed out that among the advances in the meeting of both leaders is to establish more air and land connectivity between the two countries.

“Mexico and Guatemala, sister nations. The Sembrando Vida program begins in Chimaltenango, a new consulate in Petén, 25,000 Guatemalans will be listed on the IMSS, more air and land connectivity between the two countries. Among the main advances of the ongoing bilateral meeting,” he wrote in Twitter.

López Obrador is in Guatemala as part of a work tour by several Central American and Caribbean countries. Tomorrow he will be in El Salvador.

Mexico and Guatemala live the best bilateral relations in decades: Ebrard

The Secretary of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard, presumed that Mexico and Guatemala live, at this moment, the best bilateral relations that both nations have had in decades.

“Friendly conversation between Presidents Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Alejandro Giammattei Falla. The best bilateral relations in decades,” he highlighted in a tweet published on Thursday night.

The publications are accompanied by two photographs showing the presidents, López Obrador and Giammattei, as well as the foreign ministers, Ebrard and Mario Búcaro -formerly the Guatemalan ambassador to Mexico-, andn where he highlights that the Mexican foreign minister is the only one of the four who wears a face mask.

Ebrard’s decision to wear a face mask stands out following it was announced yesterday that eUS Secretary of State Antony Blinken, with whom the foreign minister lived on Monday, tested positive for covid-19. This despite the fact that Ebrard himself underwent a PCR test before starting the tour in which he accompanies President López Obrador through Central America and the Caribbean, which was negative.
