Marcel Hug won the 800m title at the Para Athletics World Championships in Paris. It is the 14th medal for Switzerland.
The big favorite lived up to its role as favourite: Marcel Hug, who had already won gold over 5000 m and 1500 m at the Para Athletics World Championships in Paris, was unbeatable over 800 m as well. The man from Thurgau took the lead in the T54 category from the very first meter and celebrated a start-to-finish victory.
With a time of 1:29.00 minutes, Hug beat his world record by more than a second. But the new world championship record was easily enough to relegate Faisal Alrajehi from Kuwait (1:29.61) and Brit Daniel Sidbury (1:29.72) to places 2 and 3.

The Swiss balance sheet in Paris reads extremely well: The athletes collected no fewer than 14 medals. What makes the whole thing even nicer: All are either gold (9) or silver (5).
The most successful Swiss athlete is wheelchair athlete Catherine Debrunner with 4x gold and 1x silver. Hug (3x gold) and Manuela Schär (2x gold and 2x silver) follow closely behind her.
