Gresini rider Marc Marquez said the rain helped him win the San Marino GP at the Misano Marco Simoncelli World Circuit, Italy, on Sunday (8/9).
Rain fell at Misano early in the race, forcing championship leader Jorge Martin into the pit lane to change his bike on lap seven. Marquez made the most of the momentum, moving up the order until he passed Francesco Bagnaia on lap eight to take pole position all the way to the finish line in a special white livery.
“This victory was a real surprise. Winning from ninth on the grid seemed impossible, especially when it was raining,” Marquz said as quoted by Between.
“I don’t think it will help us. I know we can do well in the dry. But leading and losing the lead are two different things,” he added.
As the rain fell, he said Gresini founder, the late Fausto Gresini, was watching from “the sky” to give him his second consecutive MotoGP race win of the season after Aragon last week.
“For me, it’s clear that it was Fausto who helped today, he watched from above and then let the rain fall a little bit,” he said.

This victory confirms Marquez’s “return” to MotoGP, which currently occupies third place in the standings.
