“I’ve had some pretty special things in my life.” To mark his return to humor in a solo show that will hit the road in January 2024, Marc Dupré intends to lift the veil on several aspects of his life, including his relationship with his ex-parents-in-law, Céline Dion and the late Rene Angelil.
“When it’s Céline and René, your in-laws, and the grandparents of your children, it’s not the same. I experienced many things that I have never told, ”says Marc Dupré.
The singer who has become comical once more, who has just announced his break-up with the mother of his three children, Anne-Marie Angélil, will therefore reserve “with respect” a few jokes regarding his famous ex-in-laws.
“There are funny stories like that can’t be with them. I’ve always kept that to myself, but in a comedy show, I think it’s interesting. We all have a little voyeur side. Without going into affairs that are not relatable, I have nevertheless experienced christie great stories with them”, says the one who did not dare to go on this ground before.
“It was more me who was sometimes destabilized and uncomfortable with them or what was going on,” he adds.

The voice
He also intends to use his long experience as a coach in The voice to make the public laugh by showing them behind the scenes. “The voice, he says, people have a version of what it is. When you break it down a bit, there’s some really good stuff in there.”
Speaking of The voice, if he decided to leave his red armchair for the next season, it was to devote himself to his comedy show and because he felt that he might not give as much time as he wanted. to the young talents he recruits into his team.
“It’s not that there are so many shoots, but I give them a lot, to the candidates. It’s a lot of work and followingwards, I don’t let go. I try to help them as best I can.”
Oh come on!
Even if he affirms that he will continue to make music, Marc Dupré nevertheless puts on hold a fruitful career as a pop artist which allowed him to fill the Bell Center and the Videotron Center.
“I need challenges, adrenaline. I did a lot of shows and albums, but musically I felt like I was too comfortable. I needed to put myself in danger and excite myself with something else.
That something else, he agreed, had to involve a stage and an audience. The humor was spot on.
Is he aware that a generation of admirers have no idea he started his career doing impersonations and jokes?
“Yes and I like the idea of surprising people. My show is called Oh come on! because that’s the response from the first person I told I was doing a comedy show.”
Who said that? “I’ll keep that to myself, but it was a ‘Well let’s see!’ family.”
The show tour Oh come on! will take off on January 26 in Saint-Eustache. A first series of dates is announced. Marc Dupré will be at L’Étoile in Brossard on May 10 and at the Théâtre Capitole in Québec on May 17 and 18.
A ComediHa! to practice
Marc Dupré will make his comedic comeback through the front door on Tuesday evening, hosting the first of six ComediHa! Fest-Québec 2023 at the Grand Théâtre de Québec.
“It’s a good practice,” says the one who will deliver four new numbers during his humorous reunion evening, in which Laurent Paquin, Mathieu Dufour, Véronique Claveau and Richardson Zéphir will participate.
“Four issues is still 40 minutes of material. If it’s going to end up in my show? You never know, maybe we’ll rework things for my show, but it was written for the gala.
Given all that he has been through in his life recently, Marc Dupré admitted that at the time of our interview, he was starting a sprint with the three authors of his numbers to be ready in time.
He does not say he is fond of having a theme imposed on the guests for such a production, but for his part, his common thread will be the fact that he has just turned 50 and that he wants to talk regarding “the affairs that I can do and the things I can no longer do.”
