Marawi Vice Mayor Arrested for 2013 Shooting Incident
Decade-Old Case Catches Up to Public Official
Authorities apprehended Marawi City Vice Mayor Anouar Abdulrauf on December 2nd, arresting him in connection with murder and attempted murder charges stemming from a 2013 shooting incident that occurred in Caloocan City . Abdulrauf’s arrest marks a significant development in a long-standing case involving allegations of violence and drug-related offenses.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the agency responsible for his arrest, revealed that Abdulrauf was taken into custody at the Marawi city hall compound.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago disclosed that the vice mayor had been using the alias Anouar Abedin Romuros Abdulrauf, despite his legal name being Anwar Abedin Romuros.
The charges against Abdulrauf originate from a 2013 incident in the Tala area of Caloocan City. NBI agents were executing a search warrant related to alleged drug violations when they encountered armed resistance.
Tragically, the shootout resulted in the death of Latip Sultan, and multiple NBI agents sustained injuries.
Following Sultan’s death, his wife filed a formal complaint. A key witness in the case subsequently identified Abdulrauf as one of the individuals involved in the armed confrontation.
While Abdulrauf is now in custody, the NBI emphasized that other individuals implicated in the incident remain at large. The agency has initiated a comprehensive manhunt operation to locate and apprehend these fugitives.
“The warrant was served by the NBI with the help of the Army, Task Force Marawi, and Task Force Oro from Cagayan de Oro City.”
