Evans Chebet and Peres Jepchirchir brought Kenyan success to the Boston Marathon. Chebet, 33, won in 2:06:51, the third best winning time in the race’s 125-year history. Second and third place went to Kenya with Lawrence Cherono (2:07:21) and Benson Kipruto (2:07:27). In the women’s race, Jepchirchir, the Tokyo Olympic champion, also set the third best time by a female winner in 2:21:01 following a thrilling final sprint. Just behind her was Ababel Yeshaneh of Ethiopia (2:21:05) in second place. The 42-year-old Edna Kiplagat (Kenya), world champion from 2011 and 2013, was fourth (2:21:40).
