Marath Baruch Bolaños López will be the next secretary of the Work and Social Welfarereported this morning the president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
I report that Marath Bolaños López is going to be the next Secretary of Labor,” he said at the morning conference at the National Palace.
“He currently works as Undersecretary of Labor and he is in charge of the Youth Building the Future program,” he argued.
The announcement occurs one day following the appointment of the still Secretary of Labor, Luisa Maria Mayoras the next Secretary of the Interior, the most important post in the cabinet, following the resignation of López Obrador’s ally, Adam Augusto Lopezwho will seek the presidency of Mexico in 2024.
Bolaños López will assume a secretariat that has gained notoriety in this government for being responsible for five consecutive increases in the minimum wage, resolving labor conflicts within the Treaty between Mexico, the United States, and Canada (T-MEC), and implementing the labor reform that established union democracy.
It will also be responsible for monitoring compliance with the new labor laws, such as the prohibition on subcontracting known as “outsourcing”, the teleworking norm, the reform of private pensions and the duplication of mandatory vacations.
Who is Marath Bolaños López?
Marath Baruch Bolaños López has held the Undersecretary of Employment and Labor Productivity of the Ministry of Labor since October 2020.
His past assignment in the Federal Public Administration was as Private Secretary of the Secretary of Foreign Relations (SRE), at that time held by Marcelo Ebrard, from December 1, 2018 to September 30, 2020.
He was a deputy for the parliamentary group of Morena in the Constituent Assembly, in charge of the elaboration of the First Political Constitution of Mexico City, in the period 2016-2017. Under this popular representation, he joined the work of the Rights Commissions and Mayors.
He is a professor at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in the careers of International Relations, Sociology and Communication Sciences of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences (FCPyS). He currently teaches the subject of Political Culture in Mexico in the FCPyS of the UNAM.
He participated in various research projects at UNAM and carried out a research stay abroad.
He is co-author of the book Towards inclusion and equity in higher education institutions in Latin America: critical approaches to their regulationsProject Measures for Social Inclusion and Equity in Higher Education Institutions in Latin America – MISEAL, Berlin, Germany, 2014, among other publications.
He has a degree in International Relations from the FCPyS of the UNAM and has a master’s degree in Latin American Studies from the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the UNAM. In both degrees he developed investigations of political culture and popular community tradition.
