Jeddah: A new city is coming up in Jeddah with an area of 11 km surrounded by an artificial canal. The city to be built in the northern part of Jeddah called ‘Marafi’ will have residential, commercial and entertainment centers. The announcement was made by Roshan Group, a real estate developer under the Saudi Public Investment Fund.

It will be a city capable of accommodating more than 1,30,000 people. The city will be built on its banks by creating an 11-km-long artificial canal that will carry water and boats. The project aims to develop the landscape of Jeddah city, which is one of the most important tourist and commercial centers in the country. The project will include infrastructure, public, recreational and residential buildings aimed at improving the quality of life and making Jeddah a global destination.

This will be the first artificial water canal of its kind in a Saudi city. The water bodies in Chicago, Stockholm, Hamburg and Central London will be equal. With the construction of the canal, the marine environment will enter the heart of this historic city. On one side will be a water-urban corridor connecting homes and residential communities, and on the other side will be nature, commercial and recreational centers and lifestyle-enhancing buildings.

The project aims to enhance and support the status of the city of Jeddah by building a new urban center equipped with world-class residential, commercial and entertainment venues that will attract residents and visitors. It will become one of the new landmarks in Jeddah. Marafi will have several integrated residential and commercial areas with unique features. It will be linked to the ‘Alaroos’ integrated residential project currently under construction in Jeddah by ‘Roshan Group’.

Roshan Group CEO David Grover said that the Marafi project will give a new face to the north of Jeddah. It will contribute to the investment of natural resources and the latest technologies to bring Jeddah into the ranks of global cities.
