Maple Leafs practice without an NHL goalie on Saturday

goalkeeper Matt Murray of the Toronto Maple Leafs is currently recovering from an ankle injury he sustained while warming up ahead of Friday’s 6-2 game once morest the Ottawa Senators.

A teammate was absent from training on Saturday Ilya Samsonov but also because he was spared. This resulted in a strange situation. The team did not have an experienced NHL goalie available for scheduled practice sessions the day before Sunday’s game (5 pm ET; NHL.tv; 11 pm ET) once morest the Washington Capitals.

So there were a few worried faces around the club. Yet coach Keefe and striker Mitchell Marner spoke to the press followingwards and quickly calmed tempers.

“It doesn’t matter who’s in goal in training, anything is better than an empty goal,” joked Marner. And Coach Keefe added: “Matt has to be examined more closely today. But he will first have to sit out. Ilya will play for us on Sunday. We had given him the day off to rest in advance. This time it worked in training too without them both. It’s no big deal I guess. It was just circumstance.”
