LONDON, UK (CNN)–CNN reporters and eyewitnesses in cities across Ukraine reported hearing explosions in the early hours of Thursday.
These areas included:
Kiev: CNN reporters in the Ukrainian capital heard explosions from the east towards the city’s international airport. Social media users reported that they heard several explosions in the Boryspil district, east of the capital, where the international airport is located 25 kilometers (15 miles) from the city. CNN did not confirm the targeting of the airport.
KharkivA CNN team in Ukraine’s second-largest city, in the northeast, heard “a steady stream of powerful explosions.”
Kramatorsk: Two people in the east of the city, regarding 120 kilometers (75 miles) north of separatist-held Donetsk, told CNN they heard at least two massive explosions.
Dnipro: A downtown resident told CNN they heard “a few explosions.”
Mariubol: Two residents told CNN they heard explosions east of the southeastern city.
Odessa: A CNN team in the Black Sea port city heard two sets of explosions regarding 20 minutes apart.
Zaporizhia: The CNN team in the southeastern city said they heard at least one explosion very far away.
Additionally, a CNN team in the Russian city of Belgorod, regarding 80 kilometers (50 miles) north of Kharkiv, said they heard a regular stream of strikes that sounded like outgoing artillery fire.
