Many Quebecers live payroll to payroll

As the first of the month approaches with all its financial obligations, many Quebecers live payroll to payroll.

In Quebec, between 30 to 35% of households find themselves in this situation.

Thursday morning, Desjardins encountered a problem in the deposit of wages for its users, creating concern for some.

“It’s a pretty high level of stress [si je ne reçois pas ma paie]. I don’t make a lot of money. I will not be able to pay my rent”, reacted a young woman in an interview with TVA Nouvelles.

“It doesn’t stress me out. One is fine, but from two, we would have a problem,” said another.

It is for this reason that an expert in the financial world advises Quebecers to create an emergency fund.

“It is three to six months of current expenses to be able to pay all its commitments. If you dine every day at your place of work, we erase $100 per week. That totals around $5,000 a year. People don’t see the sum. When you manage to reduce certain unconscious expenses, you can save thousands of dollars a year,” said Fabien Major, financial planner at Major private management.
