More and more French people are opting for carpooling to go on vacation this summer. A solution to avoid overpriced train tickets or to pay full price for your full tank of gas. Europe 1 went to meet a student for whom carpooling is becoming essential in order to be able to travel.

What if carpooling was the most financially attractive transport solution for going on vacation this summer? This is in any case the opinion of Eléonore, 21 years old. For her Paris-Bordeaux, this business student chose to carpool for the first time. Three passengers will make the six-hour journey in his car. “They each paid around thirty euros. It’s very advantageous for me financially,” she exclaims. “Their presence is as if they were paying me a full tank of gas. Normally, I should have paid almost 150 euros and now I’m just going to pay my toll, which is around 40 euros.”

A record enthusiasm

Like Eléonore, many French people will learn carpooling this summer. Nicolas Michaux, spokesperson for Blablacar even evokes a record summer. “In total this summer, we are expecting three million carpoolers and this is up 20% compared to last summer. The desire to travel, high inflation mean that we are looking for low prices. All this combined makes it a record for us,” he said.

A success also attributed to the government’s carpooling bonus set up at the beginning of the year. A bonus of 100 euros paid to new carpoolers. Blablacar has identified 200,000 of them on its platform since the implementation of this aid.
