Manuel Turizo celebrates the victory of the Spanish team with bachata

Following Spain’s victory to be crowned Euro 2024 winners on Sunday, the public was euphoric, so the start of Manuel Turizo’s concert was welcomed in Seville, the third destination chosen for his “Euro Summer Tour 2024”, eager to continue the celebration.

The elephant in the room was hard to ignore. After performing “La Nota” and “Mala Costumbre”, the singer’s first words at the concert, held in the Plaza de España on the occasion of the Icónica Santalucía Sevilla Fest 2024, might not be other than congratulations to the Spanish fans and a wish for victory for Colombia, which just a few hours later faces Argentina this morning in the final of the Copa América.

“Spain is the champion. Yes sir. Today is already a happy day, so we have to have a good time. That’s why we came,” said the singer following the start of the concert, which was delayed to avoid coinciding with the Euro Cup final.

Seconds later, the long-awaited “Mala Costumbre” raised the applause of a very diverse audience, which included parents who accompanied their daughters to see their idol and those who had been introduced to the Colombian singer’s rhythms at a somewhat older age.

Trends

The attendees also had a striking combination of outfits for the special day, combining hairstyles and colourful accessories typical of the festival with national team flags worn as capes or skirts.

A certain feeling of nostalgia came with “Amor en Coma,” a sincere song regarding the irremediable feeling of guilt that love leaves behind when it goes away. “How can I tell her no / that I don’t want to continue / if she would give her life for me,” describes the song.

Although not in person, some of the artists who have collaborated with the artist appeared at the event through the stage screens to accompany Turizo, among which were the singers Shakira, with “Copa Vacía” and Lola Índigo with “1000COSAS”.

Lola, the protagonist

Lola, a six-year-old girl who stood out from the audience with a large banner that read “Manuel, I am Lola, I am six years old and I want to dance with you,” was the star of one of the most emotional moments of the night. With little shame and a well-rehearsed choreography, Lola took the microphone to shout a few verses of “La Bachata” and won the hearts of the audience and the singer.

Romanticism, with a touch of skepticism and certainly of realism, arrived in “Quiéreme mientras se puede”. A unison voice, mostly female, took over the first verses of the song as the night progressed, which, by the way, called for a jacket or something warm following the unexpected drop in temperature in Seville, which had suffered more than thirty degrees during the day.

Although his 24 years place him in Generation Z, marked by the use of electronic devices, it was past midnight when Turizo paused to ask the audience to please get away from their devices and connect “with reality.” “Leave your cell phone behind and stay here, with us.”

“This looks like a painting”

The party started with “Vagabundo”, a catchy song and probably one of the singer’s best-known songs, as its chorus was played on all the radio stations in our country and was one of the questions for summer 2023.

“I have been to beautiful cities, but there are few like these in the world. This looks like a painting. When you can, you can invite me,” were the flirtatious words that the singer dedicated to the capital of Seville.

A special moment of the evening was reserved for Julián Turizo, who participated in the event as a guitarist and singer, celebrating the Spanish fans, praising the beauty of the capital of Seville and wishing, as might not be otherwise, victory for the Colombian team.

For “Una Lady Como Tú”, both brothers decided to go back to the moment in which the song was composed. Some stairs, a ukulele and a night. With the addition of the Seville public, one of the most special songs for the brothers was thus portrayed.

“I have to sing with the shirt of the European champion,” were the words that Turizo dedicated in the Plaza de España before, unexpectedly, several shirts of the Spanish national team appeared on stage to dress the musicians and brothers, who would then perform “El Merengue” as the final touch to a night of celebration and Latin rhythms.
