Biel: A shoplifter falls down the stairs
A man was injured while trying to escape from a supervisor at the Manor store.

A shoplifter was injured when he fell down a stairwell while fleeing from a Manor store in Bienne on December 19. This fugitive was arrested.
“During his escape, an altercation broke out,” the Bernese cantonal police said today in a call for witnesses. It was 3:50 p.m. that Thursday when he was notified of the presence of a shoplifter.
The alleged thief behaved aggressively in the “Manor” department store on rue Centrale 40. According to initial findings, he left the store to go to the parking lot with the elevator, then took a stairwell .

“A store supervisor followed him into the stairwell,” police said. The two men confronted each other in several places and used pepper spray.
Following this altercation, the thief continued to flee. It was then that he fell down the stairwell for reasons that have yet to be determined. Injured, he was taken to hospital by ambulance.
In order to shed further light on the course of events, the Bernese cantonal police, under the direction of the Bernese Jura-Seeland Public Prosecutor’s Office, have opened an investigation. Witnesses to the altercation are being sought.
