Manoj Tiwari: A Legendary Cricketer’s Farewell from the Game

Indian middle-order batsman, Bengal veteran and Sports Minister Manoj Tiwary has retired from all formats of cricket. The 37-year-old Tiwary last played for India in 2015. He is active in domestic cricket till 2023 and has scored an international century. Tiwary played a crucial role in leading Bengal in Ranji and reaching the final. 12 ODIs and 3 Twenty20s were played between 2008 and 2015.

‘Goodbye cricket, the game gave me everything. Despite facing many hardships and trials from the beginning, cricket gave me everything that I might not even dream of. Tiwari said in a post shared on Instagram that he owes cricket and God.

Manoj Tiwary has played for Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata, Punjab and Pune in the IPL. Tiwari made his international debut once morest Australia in 2007-08. In 2011, he replaced Yuvraj Singh in the West Indies tour. He scored a century in the fifth match of the series but was on the bench for 14 consecutive matches. Tiwary’s career in Twenty20 was also unstable. He was often in the team but did not get a chance to play. Tiwary has been a consistent performer for Bengal whenever he has been given the chance to play. In 2018–19, he scored 366 runs from nine games in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He scored his fifth double century in first-class cricket in November 2018. He also scored his first career triple century in January 2020.

Apart from his performance on the field, Tiwari also tried his hand at politics. Tiwari, who joined the Trinamool Congress in 2021, was elected to the Bengal Legislative Assembly.
