The individual was first chased by the police in the Huy area, who were informed that an individual was attacking passers-by at Huy station. Around 4:30 p.m., upon seeing the police team, the man actually fled, running onto the train tracks. It then left towards the city center before finishing its journey at the Quai de Compiègne, along the Meuse. There he tried to escape once more by jumping into the water.
On site, five police combis intervened as well as an ambulance and two fire trucks from the Hemeco zone, including one from the special team of divers.
The divers ultimately remained at the dock: the individual had found refuge on a small boat. The police went to pick him up, before handcuffing him and taking him away in a combi.
As a precaution, the suspect, who was submerged in the freezing water, was taken to hospital to be seen by a doctor. He was then deprived of his liberty and put in a cell while the police got a better idea of what happened. It will be necessary to determine what type of attacks he committed: verbal, physical, etc.
The intervention was impressive but did not require the closure of the Compiègne quay.
