Lee Hyeon-se, who was greatly loved for the comics ‘Maggie’ and ‘Fear of Foreigners’, revealed the reason why he suddenly disappeared.
Lee Hyun-se appeared on TV Chosun’s entertainment program ‘Star Documentary My Way’, which was broadcast on the 24th.
On this day, Lee Hyun-se said, “‘The Fifth Season of Magpie’ is my autobiographical story.” He continued, “It’s a story regarding a hidden time in which I came as an adopted child and lived without knowing it.
My grandmother raised three sons. On June 25, the eldest father passed away, and the second son went up to the North as a part of the People’s Army. I am the first child born to the youngest son. As soon as he gave birth to me, he sent me to a big house as an adopted child, and I found out that he was an adopted child at the age of 20.”
Lee Hyeon-se was also sentenced to a fine of 3 million won for ‘The Myth of Heaven’, which is set in the prehistoric era of the Korean Peninsula, following being caught up in a controversy over lewd violence. However, he appealed and was acquitted. Lee Hyun-se mentioned this and said, “At the age of forty-one, ‘Myth of Heaven’ was caught up in an argument with lewd violence and was sentenced to a criminal trial for six years. If it was supposed to be tried once a month, I had to go unconditionally. I avoided it because it wouldn’t come. I haven’t drawn comics for 6 years,” he said. He continued, “I mightn’t even pay 100,000 won.
If you pay the fine, you admit your guilt.” He said, “After the trial, I was in my 50s.”
Lee Hyun-se also said, “It’s been 10 years since I had gastric cancer surgery. Diabetes came five years before stomach cancer. I was able to survive with the strength of my family,” he said.
