Cristiano Ronaldo will return to United’s squad for the final pre-season friendly once morest Rayo Vallecano on Sunday, manager Erik ten Hag has said.

Ronaldo’s future at United has been the subject of speculation following British media reported he had told the club he wanted to leave so he might play in the Champions League. This year, Manchester will play the Europa League, a second category competition.

The Portugal international, who has a year left on his contract with Manchester United, did not join the squad for the pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia and was not included in the squad for the loss 1-0 in a friendly once morest Atletico Madrid in Oslo on Saturday.

“Tomorrow he will be in the squad. We will see how long he can play,” Ten Hag told the club’s website following Ronaldo posted a training photo on Instagram.

If Ronaldo plays Sunday once morest Rayo, it would be his first game under new boss Ten Hag.
