Yesterday the youngsters from Manchester United climbed off the plane in Munich, tomorrow, Saturday, you can even see the English record champions’ young footballers on their feet in Upper Austria: At the U15 event of the Baumit Indoor Cup, local clubs are fighting for the title with top international clubs in Schärding coveted title of the 31st edition.
The host club, state league team Union Esternberg, ensured that the “Red Devils”, who arrived with ten players and five supervisors, felt comfortable. In the Schärdinger inn “Zur Bums’n” the English are also treated to local food. “At lunch there is sports food such as pasta, but in the evening, like every year, a schnitzel is a must,” reveals organizer Hannes Fesel. The indoor tournament has been running since December 28th: While the district cup took place yesterday during the day, Fesel took care of Borussia Dortmund’s arrival in the evening. “Because of the effort and appreciation, the clubs keep coming to us.”
Women in Grieskirchen in focus
It’s not just in the Innviertel that the football-free period is bridged with gang magic: today the three-day Andrea Binder Cup kicks off with the female offspring in the Sportarena Grieskirchen. The women’s combat teams will be in action tomorrow (women’s classes and state league) and on Sunday (Upper Austrian League) from 9 a.m. “In the hall, anyone can beat anyone, that’s what makes it so exciting,” says last year’s winner Vanessa Hörmanseder from SPG Wallern/Krenglbach.
The Trattnachtal men’s team, on the other hand, started preparing for the spring season yesterday: Regional league team Wallern was the first Upper Austrian amateur team to start with performance tests before things got serious on the pitch on Monday. Five other third division teams follow suit: SPG Wels, Gurten, Vorwärts Steyr, the LASK amateurs and the Junge Vikings.
