A media report stated that Manchester United Football Club advanced in its negotiations with Barcelona regarding the signing of Frenkie de Jong.
New Manchester United coach Eric Ten Hag coached De Jong, 25, when he was a player at Ajax, and feels he will be an important part of reshaping the England squad.
The British news agency “BA Media” has learned that Manchester United has made positive progress in negotiations with Barcelona, and that a deal amounting to 65 million euros ($68.5 million) has been arranged, in addition to incentives.
Some things still have to be ironed out but the first contract in the reign of Tin Hag seems just around the corner.
The Dutch coach, who led Manchester United’s first training on Monday, focused on signing a midfielder.
Manchester United have struggled to control the midfield and find balance in recent years, while the free departures of Paul Pogoba and Nemanja Matic have limited the team’s options.
The pair are among the star players who will leave the team this summer, such as Edinson Cavaye, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mattia.
And Manchester United is seeking to sign other players, in light of the departure of players from the team, such as substitute goalkeeper Diane Henderson, who will move to Nottingham Forest on loan.
At the same time, young player Zidane Iqbal signed a new revised contract with the club.
Iqbal played his first match with the team in December in the Champions League once morest the Young Boys, and signed a contract until June 2025 with the option to add another year.
The 19-year-old wrote on Twitter: “Happy to extend my stay with this wonderful club. Thank God.”
