Berlin (AFP) – Matthias Sammer, a consultant at Borussia Dortmund, said that Manchester City would be a good destination for its young Norwegian striker, Erling Haaland, amid reports on Wednesday that a penalty clause must be applied in the striker’s contract before April 30.

Haaland, 21, has a contract with Dortmund until 2024, but the prestigious German newspaper Bild reported on Wednesday that he might leave for 75 million euros ($82 million) at the end of the current season if the Norwegian decided to activate the penalty clause.

Zammer, a former Dortmund player and coach, plays a key role in the club’s hierarchy.

Speaking as an analyst with Amazon Prime on Tuesday, he said that Haaland will shine under coach Pep Guardiola, “they will both benefit from each other, because Pep of course has ideas that I have personally tested for three years”, having served as sporting director at Bayern Munich when The Spaniard was a coach between 2013 and 2016.

Zammer, 54, has been upfront regarding reports that City are willing to pay Haaland £500,000 a week ($654,000) in salary.

Haaland caught the attention of Europe’s top clubs with his scoring skills. He is the youngest player to reach the 20-goal mark in the Champions League.

Since joining from Austrian Red Bull Salzburg, the Norway international has scored 80 goals in 80 games for Dotmund, and scored 16 goals in 15 league games this season following being sidelined for a period due to injuries.

Reports indicated that City contacted his agent Mino Raiola and offered him the best offer among all the clubs interested in his services.
