Mañalich insists on the importance of the bivalent vaccine after the rise in infections and variants in China | National

Health specialists described the Bivalent vaccination program as a failure, as a result of the low level of coverage achieved in the population.

More than two months after the Government announced the start of the bivalent vaccine campaign against COVID-19, specialists warned the program has been a “failure”due to the low coverage in its application, which does not reach 50% of the target population.

The former minister of Health, Jaime Manalichwas critical of the campaign, and emphasized the importance of taking preventive measures, facing the winter of next year.

In addition, he warned that the Bivalent vaccine should play a leading role.

“It is more likely that the future of the evolution of the covid during the next year is not auspicious, given this catastrophe that is occurring in China with new infections and the appearance of new variants. In this context, measures for winter must be accentuated, and among them, bivalent vaccination is the most important”said

In the case of the elderly population -that is, from 60 years onwards-, the vaccine reaches 23% coverage; while those who suffer from chronic diseases, only 3.4% have received their inoculation.

The low coverage achieved by the vaccine is due to the decrease in social concern about the pandemic, which is called a “pandemic fatigue”and that has generated a drop in the sense of urgency in the population.

This is what the doctor said Juan Carlos Saidwho emphasized the urgency of taking measures by the Minsal, to bring vaccination closer to people again.
