Managing Water Consumption in Gouvy: Vital Measures to Prevent Drought

It has now been a week since the inhabitants of the commune of Gouvy, in the province of Luxembourg, comply with a limitation of water consumption, as reported by Le Soir. They must respect several measures put in place by the municipal authorities to prevent any period of drought this summer, as declared by Michel Marenne, the alderman of Works.

The restrictions in question? Limitation of the watering of gardens, lawns and courtyards but also of equestrian trails and vehicle maneuvering areas. They also concern more public areas, such as the cleaning of sidewalks, paths, streets and gutters as well as terraces and the watering of sports grounds. The filling of swimming pools is also concerned, as well as the watering of cars and buildings. An exception is made in the context of work that makes cleaning the building essential. Finally, tank storage and filling is also limited.

Fortunately for the inhabitants of Gouvy, the month of July was covered with showers. But the alderman does not consider the rain to be an advantage: “It is not because it has rained a lot that production has increased or stabilized. On the contrary, the indicators that we have go in the other direction. The rains of the last few weeks have run off and have not really raised the level of the water tables,” he explained.

The return of heat, scheduled for mid-August, does not reassure him either. “We don’t know how September and October will be. So it’s a way of anticipating,” he said.
