Managing Crowds and Parking Issues: Closure of Espace Moureau in Marcourt (Rendeux)

2023-08-17 08:34:00

The sun has returned in recent days, enough to give ideas to citizens and tourists looking for outdoor activities. In Marcourt (Rendeux), for example, the Espace Moureau was very busy. Much too large even, so that the municipal authorities have decided to close the site until further notice.

“There are a lot of wild car parks, especially on the RAVeL”

The site, which includes barbecues, picnic spots and the nearby Ourthe, is therefore now off-limits to the public. A decision taken by the Commune this Tuesday, August 15. “There is too much traffic in this space, explains the mayor of Rendeux, Cédric Lerusse. And this, despite the series of measures that we put in place at the start of the season to try to manage things. Among other things, a steward has been hired by the Commune and by the Syndicat d’initiative, larger containers have been considered for garbage cans and car parks have been better informed. However, nothing helps. “Despite these measures, we are unable to manage things when the weather is good, continues the mayor. There are so many people! And with that, a lot of wild parking lots. All this causes traffic problems with the difficulty for farmers to pass with their carts. And then, many also park on the RAVeL. These situations are problematic and force us to call the police on site.”

“We can no longer follow to keep the site clean”

This Monday, August 14 once more, 250 people were present on the site, which is obviously far too many for the space. “With problems of waste on the area, affirms Cédric Lerusse once more. We can no longer follow to keep the site clean and without nuisance. We told ourselves that it was going to be the same the coming weekend, with the good weather announced, we have therefore decided to close Espace Moureau until further notice.” This is the first time that the Commune, in consultation with the Syndicat d’initiative, has decided to close the site because of the crowds. “If barbecues are already present on the site, this does not prevent visitors from going there with their own mobile barbecue, still regrets the mayor. Here once more, we are not able to enforce certain rules. And if there is an improvement in terms of waste with the measures already taken, it is still not enough. In any case, not with an influx like that of last Monday. This non-savoir-vivre is therefore sanctioned since the site will only reopen once the Commune has decided.
