Managing Access to Lac de la Gruyère: Solving the Parking Problem and Enhancing Tourist Experience

2023-07-09 20:44:03

Access to Lac de la Gruyère is beginning to pose a problem, as more and more people come to seek a bit of fresh air. Several municipalities have taken individual measures to avoid illegal parking, but some call for global management.

The beaches of Lac de la Gruyère are increasingly popular. To get there, the car remains the easiest way. In Pont-la-Ville, where the number of places is very limited, agents levy a tax of five francs per day.

On the opposite shore of the lake, the village of Gumefens has been charging this tax for three years. On busy days, up to 250 cars come to park. The municipality recognizes that the temporary parking system is not fully satisfactory. But she has not found any other solution so far.

“If, for example, we want to ensure the arrival of help in the event of an accident, we are obliged to put this kind of measure in place. On the other hand, we also have a lot of complaints from local residents and local companies who are asking for channel the influx of people”, explains in the 7:30 p.m. Géraldine Barras, municipal councilor of Pont-en-Ogoz.

Common access management

The commune of Hauteville, for its part, is putting on prohibition signs and a barrier to avoid illegal parking. However, the syndic would like to better exploit the tourist potential of the lake. He believes that this requires a common response.

“We have no choice. Mobility issues must be settled at regional level. If we want relief parking lots, we must do them at regional level. And why not put shuttles in the summer period”, explains Bernard Bapst, syndic of Hauteville.

Joint management of access to the lake might, however, take time. Many believe that the interests are too divergent to quickly reach a solution.
