In an interview given to our editorial staff this Tuesday, December 12, 2023, the president of the Union of Patriots for the Development of Guinea (UPDG) party spoke about the restrictions that certain Guinean media are subject to and the conduct of the Guinean transition.

Amadou Secteur Barry indicated that it is impossible to reach the media in a country where freedom of expression is guaranteed to citizens.
According to this political actor, what is happening to the media proves that the Guinean junta has a hidden agenda.

He invites the authorities to restore the media concerned: “If you block the media which inform citizens, that is not a good thing. I call on the authorities to immediately release the media. If a journalist is at fault, enforce the law and not the entire media. They need to let the media do their job. If there is any slippage, the main thing is to call them out.”

Regarding the management of the transition, the head of the UPDG displays a feeling of desolation.

“The transition is going from bad to worse, after restricting freedom of expression, all dissonant voices are forced into exile. That’s the height of it,” regrets our interlocutor.
Amadou Secteur Barry also denounces the lack of dialogue between political actors and the authorities.

He criticizes the government for not having created a real framework for dialogue allowing discussion on issues related to the return to constitutional order.
