The detainee was formalized for the crime of reckless driving, applying the suspension of his license for 6 months and he must make a donation to an animal group in the Llanquihue commune.
The day of this Saturday was formalized a man driving at 249 kilometers per hour (km/h) on route 5 south in Frutillar, Lakes region.
The 33-year-old driver was surprised by police officers speeding on the highway, following detecting him with the radar gun in the middle of preventive controls.
Specifically, the subject was driving at more than double the speed allowed on the route, since the maximum established is 120 km/h.
In said instance, police personnel began the pursuit of the vehicle to capture the offending driver, who he was stopped 40 kilometers later.
Arrest and formalization of the man
After his arrest, it was revealed that the man was driving a jaguar sports car and was heading south.
Subsequently, it was made available to the competent court this Saturday, where He was formalized for reckless driving and his driver’s license was suspended for 6 months.
This was reported by the Puerto Varas prosecutor, Fabián Fernández, who gave details of the sanctions applied to the subject.
“He was caught driving at a speed of 249 kilometers in a 120 km/h zone, exceeding, in this case, the permitted speed by more than 60 km/h, a limit established by the legislator so that the conduct is precisely constitutive of a crime ”, he explained.
“The defendant was arrested by the Carabineros, made available to the court today, and a conditional suspension of the procedure was imposed on him,” he said. However, he added that he can appeal to this “term formula” “because He does not have a past history in his extract nor does he have similar behaviors during the validity of the new law“.
Meanwhile, because of the crime, the defendant must make a donation to an animal group in the Llanquihue commune.
Notably, in case of recidivism, the suspension of the license can be extended up to 5 years or permanently.
Let us remember that, since last year, any driver who exceeds the set limit by 60 kilometers per hour faces penalties ranging from fines of 2 to 10 UTM. In addition, the suspension of the license for from six months to two years, if caught on the first occasion.
