A man went to the doctor following several years of finding blood in his urine and ended up discovering that he was born with a uterus and ovaries.
The individual, named Chen Li to protect his identity, had gone to the doctor following experiencing severe abdominal pain and was diagnosed with appendicitis; however, following undergoing treatment, the symptoms continued.
He went to another doctor, in Sichua, southwest China, and he was able to discover Chen’s true condition. They were female sex chromosomes. Therefore, the blood in her urine and abdominal pain were actually caused by menstruation.
Further tests revealed that Chen, 33, had a uterus and two ovaries, meaning she was intersex, reported
South China Morning Post.
Further analysis showed that Chen’s levels of the male sex hormone androgens were very low compared to Chen’s levels of female hormones and ovarian activity.
Following the shocking revelation, Chen underwent surgery last June in which her female reproductive organs were removed. And, although she hopes to continue her life normally, she cannot reproduce since her testicles do not produce sperm.
