A 29-year-old man, wanted after the murder of a 32-year-old woman in November in Italy, was arrested on Wednesday in Mulhouse under a European arrest warrant, we learned Thursday from the federal police.

The suspect “moved between Germany, France and Switzerland, in the three-border area,” a spokesman for the Zonal Directorate of Judicial Police (DZPJ) East told AFP. “The three police forces worked in a coordinated manner, which made it possible to locate the suspect in Mulhouse”.

He was checking that he wasn’t being tracked

According to the DZPJ, the suspect, whose nationality has not yet been formally established but who “would be Tunisian”, was not known to French justice and had never lived in France before. “He moved around a lot but took precautions not to attract attention and checked that he was not being followed,” the spokesperson said. The arrest responds to a European arrest warrant issued by an Italian investigating judge, said the DZPJ.

On the morning of November 18, the charred body of Alice Neri, 32, mother of a child, was found in the trunk of a burnt-out car in Fossa Concordia sulla Secchia, in the province of Modena, Italy. The car was registered in the name of Alice Neri. “A priori, the suspect would be an acquaintance of the victim,” said the DZPJ spokesperson.

According to RAI, the carabinieri of Modena had arrived at the identification of the man thanks to images of surveillance videos and numerous interrogations. Other people, the victim’s husband and a co-worker have also been investigated. But in recent days, the main suspect was the man arrested near Switzerland.
