An agitated man threw himself from a moving train on Thursday morning near Rixensart station, in Walloon Brabant. The incident occurred between 7:15 a.m. and 7:40 a.m. on rail line 161 between Namur and Brussels.
According to information communicated Friday morning by the prosecution, the person concerned became angry after noticing the presence of graffiti on the interior walls of the train.
The man attacked a companion and a passenger then intervened.
For an undetermined reason, the man then ran across the wagon before grabbing an emergency hammer, breaking a window and throwing himself out of the window.
The train continued its route to Brussels, but the alert was immediately given to the drivers of the other trains.
It was the driver of a train linking Brussels to Ottignies who spotted the body of the victim lying between the two tracks near Rixensart station.
The results of an autopsy carried out on Thursday revealed that the man died from a violent blow to the head.
The intervention of the victim identification service of the federal police (DVI) was requested, but the identity of the victim was still not known on Friday morning.
“Toxicological analyzes are underway to try to understand the victim’s actions,” concludes the Walloon Brabant prosecutor.
