A man who wanted to celebrate his divorce by performing a bungee jump instead plunged 21 meters when his rope broke.
Even more amazing, he survived.
As unlucky as he was lucky in his misfortune, Rafael dos Santos Tosta fractured his neck and lumbar spine falling into the water of Lagoa Azul, Campo Magro in Brazil.

“After the divorce, I wanted to enjoy life in every way possible. I was doing a lot of crazy things. I did not value my life,” Rafael told Parana RPC.
Currently undergoing intensive therapy to regain his means, Rafael says he has started to value life once more.

“You start to see life and be grateful for everything. It’s not that I didn’t care regarding other people before, but I didn’t see it that way,” he said.
“My life will never be the same once more. I don’t want to go back to being the Rafael I was before. I have to be grateful to be alive, which is already very important,” he said.

Before his jump, he remembers joking that the rope mightn’t support his weight.
His mother did not want him to engage in this kind of activity.
He then remembers waking up in the water, with people around him asking him not to move and letting him know that help was coming.
“When I tried to get up, I remember feeling a very strong pain. I have never felt such pain in my life,” he said.
After his fall, Rafael was stabilized by a medical team from the Military Police Air Operations Battalion and flown by helicopter to Rocio Hospital in Campo Largo, The Mirror reports.
