Victim of a car accident in 2019, Italian Luciano D’Adamo was in a coma for a few days and, when he woke up, he was sure it was 1980. The man had no memory of the events of the last 40 years and didn’t even recognize himself in the mirror — he was 63 years old, not 24, as you believed.
The family remembers that he didn’t know who his wife was, that she was no longer 19 years old, and that he didn’t even remember that he had a son over 30 years old and grandchildren. When old friends came to visit him in the hospital, he had no idea who they were.

Luciano, who is a big football and Roma fan, didn’t know who Francesco Totti, an Italian hero, was. He also did not remember the September 11 attacks or traveling by plane with his wife to Paris.
“I still remember the amazement of traveling in a car that showed me on a screen a map of Rome, or rather the Tuttocittà, as we once called it, while a voice said: ‘In 100 meters, turn right’”, says, in an interview with the Italian newspaper Il Messaggero.
Memory therapy
For the past five years, doctors have been working with Luciano’s family to recover some of his memories from the past 40 years — the work is slow, but he is beginning to remember some very specific things.

Today, the man has started working at a school and has already accepted that he is really no longer in his early 20s. To this day, the person who ran him over has not been found and he has not received any compensation for the accident.
