A man was shot in the knee during a confrontation between groups of young people overnight from Wednesday to Thursday in Anderlecht. The information from the Sudpresse and Het Laatste Nieuws newspapers was confirmed by the local police in Brussels-South (Anderlecht/Saint-Gilles/Forest).
Around midnight on Wednesday evening, around 30 young people gathered at the Aumale metro station, following which a fight broke out, according to police spokeswoman Sarah Fredeickx: “Our teams went to the scene, but when they arrived, the group had already disappeared. We then continued to patrol and occasionally passed a group. But around 2 a.m., a young man was brought to Saint-Pierre hospital with gunshot wounds to his knee..” Police suspect he was injured in a clash.
The background to the events is not yet clear and is under investigation. Thursday followingnoon, the Brussels-South police were made aware of new gatherings. The police presence in the neighborhood was reinforced, but around 8:30 p.m., no incident had been reported.
