The article sent by Mr. A was selected as the winning work in November of the same year. After his article was selected as the winner, Mr. A posted the article on a domestic internet site.

In addition, Mr. A is also accused of writing comments praising, encouraging, and propagating North Korean activities on online articles related to the North Korean military in 2013, and reposting 72 cases of hostile expressions on domestic portal sites or blogs between 2014 and 2017, or storing them in his email box.

It is known that Mr. A has been indicted in the past for praise and encouragement under the National Security Act and was sentenced to a total of 10 months in prison.

The court said, “The defendant represented North Korea’s position over a long period of time during the period of repeated offenses, glorified and praised it, and produced and distributed a significant number of subversive expressions that threatened the existence and security of the country or the basic order of liberal democracy, so severe punishment is inevitable.” However, he stated the reason for sentencing, saying, “We took into account the fact that he admitted to all his crimes during the trial and the fact that he did not engage in violent actions to overthrow or undermine the basic order beyond posting.”
