In the state of Baden-Württemberg in Germany, a man made a U-turn in the middle of the Autobahn due to a traffic jam and then gave himself a chase with the police. The driver of a Mercedes AMG GT 63 S sports car was on the A 81 near Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen on Friday night, the police in Ludwigsburg said. When he encountered a traffic jam, he turned his car and drove off the freeway following a short distance.
Two other road users reported the maneuver by emergency call. Shortly therefollowing, officers in a patrol car saw the Mercedes, which had meanwhile returned to the freeway, and gave chase.

The police officers asked the driver to stop, but he accelerated instead. “Because of the high speed, the officers lost sight of the vehicle,” the police said.
The Mercedes was later sighted once more and the police resumed the pursuit, but the fugitive sped away “at an estimated speed of well over 250 km/h” via various motorways. Several patrol cars pursued him in vain. The crew of a police helicopter that had been alerted in the meantime kept an eye on the car and finally saw the man park the car and get out. He escaped undetected.
The police confiscated the car and began an investigation. According to the information, a total of 41 patrol cars were involved in the chase. (nad/AFP)
