A 36-year-old Slovenian has to answer for murder at the regional court in Klagenfurt on Wednesday. He is accused of killing a 48-year-old Italian with an ax in an apartment in Villach last December. The jury trial, chaired by Judge Bernd Lutschounig, is scheduled to last until the evening.
The crime was committed on December 9th. Two days later, the 36-year-old went to the police himself, and the officers then found the dead man in the apartment. The autopsy showed massive head injuries as the cause of death, according to the indictment, the accused gave the 48-year-old at least five heavy blows to the head. He said he committed the crime while intoxicated. However, an expert report confirmed his sanity. The 36-year-old is said to have gone shopping following the killing with the victim’s ATM card.
