A man was rescued on a Colorado mountain after his hiking group left him behind and he got lost on the trail. The incident occurred on August 23 when 15 employees of a company decided to climb Mount Shavano.
According to the Chaffee County Search and Rescue team, the man, whose identity has not been released, stopped to rest, but his companions continued on without him. The situation was complicated by a storm with high winds and freezing rain, which left the hiker without a signal on his cell phone.
At 9pm local time, the rescue team received an alert and began searching. However, adverse weather conditions prevented them from finding him during the night. The man managed to regain his mobile signal and made an emergency call that allowed him to be located.
The hiker was eventually taken to a local hospital. While no further information has been provided on his health, rescue team spokesman Evan Brady stressed that he is “lucky to be alive” and dismissed accusations of deliberate abandonment by his companions.
