FARGO — The driver who sustained serious injuries following colliding with a Fargo firetruck Friday, April 12, has been identified as Sheilk Sheriff, a 37year-old from Fargo.

The crash happened shortly before noon Friday, April 12, at 45th Street South and 40th Avenue South, according to a news release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Sheriff was driving a Honda motorcycle north on 45th Street and merged into a lane where the fire truck was driving, the release said.

The fire truck was responding to a structure fire, so had its emergency lights flashing and sirens activated to warn drivers, the release said.

The motorcycle collided with the fire truck, ejecting the motorcyclist from his bike, the release said. Sheriff was wearing a helmet, the Highway Patrol said.

Three firefighters were in the truck, which was driven by Andrew Payne, 39. None were injured. All were wearing their seat belts, according to state troopers.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. Charges for Sheriff are pending investigation.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release regarding a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
