Man indicted for deprivation of liberty after threatening situation in Troms

The man is accused of depriving the woman of her liberty and threatening the police in connection with the incident.

It was on the night of Monday 7 August last year that the police responded to a threatening situation in a residential building in Ibestad municipality in Troms.

The incident started with a phone call to the police at 2am on Monday night and the action did not end until 8.47pm on Monday evening. No one was injured in the incident, but the victim in the case, a woman in her 50s, was attended to by the healthcare system afterwards. The police have previously said that the woman was the man’s girlfriend.

The police fired shots

According to the indictment, the man kept the offended woman back in his house against her will. He allegedly refused her to go out while he walked around the house brandishing a knife. He allegedly locked the woman in several rooms and said he was going to kill her and himself.

When the police arrived at the scene, he also allegedly pointed a softgun at two of the police officers and threatened to shoot them. Police also fired shots during the incident, but no one was injured.

Denied criminal guilt

The man was released two days after the incident. His defender, Roar Edvardsen, stated at the time that the client thought he was not guilty.

NTB has been in contact with Edvardsen on Wednesday, but he does not want to comment on how his client is responding to the indictment.

In addition to the threatening situation, the man is charged with threats against another woman on Facebook around a week after the incident in the apartment building.

The case is scheduled for Midtre Hålogaland district court on 4 and 5 November.
