On the final climb towards the finish, he and another cyclist were hit by chips. A spectator standing on the side of the road threw the French potatoes at Vingegaard’s head, who was quite surprised:
– There was a lot of booing up the last climb, and chips were also thrown at us and at me. I have never tried that before, Jonas Vingegaard said followingwards to Ekstra Bladet.

Witnesses have stated to the French media Le Parisien that the spectator in question – in a bare stomach and a thug’s hat – appeared very drunk. After throwing chips, he was pushed off the road and the police arrived shortly following and arrested him.
Since then, it has poured in with angry reactions and demands for harsh punishment for the arrested.
