Man Held for Questioning in Altoona in Connection to UnitedHealthcare CEO Murder
On Monday, a man was apprehended in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and is currently being questioned by authorities in connection with the shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Sources identified the man as 26-year-old Luigi Mangione.
McDonald’s Encounter Leads to Arrest
According to a spokesperson for the Altoona Police Department, officers were dispatched to a McDonald’s restaurant on East Plank Road around 9:15 a.m. after receiving a tip that a man matching the description of the suspect in Thompson’s murder was present.
Police eventually took Mangione into custody on unrelated charges. A spokesperson confirmed that he was found in possession of a gun and multiple fake IDs.

Sources revealed that Mangione was passing through Altoona on a Greyhound bus when it stopped at the McDonald’s on East Plank Road. A witness recognized him from media coverage of the Thompson shooting and alerted local authorities.
Local law enforcement then contacted NYPD detectives, informing them that the man matched the description they had released.
In addition to the firearm found in his possession, reports indicate that Mangione was also carrying a computer and various fake IDs, including a driver’s license reportedly similar to one displayed by the suspect at a New York City hotel.
