A 40-year-old man will go on trial in front of a jury in Vienna on Wednesday on three counts of attempted murder. On May 18, he allegedly attacked three patrons with a knife after an argument at a bar in Margareten. Victims sometimes suffered severe stab wounds and cuts. If convicted, he could face 10 to 20 years in prison or life in prison.
The prosecutor’s office also requested that he be placed in a forensic treatment center due to his dangerous nature. The 40-year-old man was drunk when he got into an argument with a local guest. Prosecutors said he grabbed a 20cm long kitchen knife and stabbed his opponent in the neck. An aide was also struck in the head and suffered some deep stab wounds. Another customer who rushed to help suffered injuries, mostly to his arm and hand.
