In rough seas, the 39-year-old was swept away by a wave in Dieppe in Normandy and called for help, the newspaper “Paris-Normandie” reported on Monday. In front of the many onlookers at the New Year’s swim in the sea, two other swimmers tried to save the man.
At first someone was able to reach the man floating in the sea, then the 39-year-old went under. Firefighters were later able to rescue the man and take him to the beach, where he was pronounced dead.
