A man with the initials JA, 39, died after falling from the 28th floor of the Green Bay Pluit apartment, Penjaringan, North Jakarta. Penjaringan Metro Police Chief Commissioner Agus Ady Wijaya said the incident occurred on Sunday, September 1, 2024 evening.
The victim, who was an apartment resident, allegedly slipped from the balcony while repairing the air conditioner in his own unit.
“It started with a report from security who heard the sound of someone falling. When checked, there was already a body lying on the edge of the apartment,” said Ady, at the Penjaringan Police Headquarters, today.
The police came to the scene and checked the victim’s apartment. When they were about to process the crime scene, the police found the victim’s room locked from the inside. It is known that the victim lived alone in the apartment. When the police managed to enter the unit, they found the television in the victim’s residence was on.
“There were many screwdrivers, cellphones and tools used to repair the AC, there were also screwdrivers, bolts, steam tools and plastic chairs at the location where the victim fell,” he said.
Before the incident, it appears from CCTV footage around the apartment, the police found evidence of the victim walking alone, from his photocopy business on the ground floor, towards his apartment unit.

“It is known that at 14.46 WIB, the victim was seen in front of his photocopy kiosk, alone. 10 minutes later, at 14.56 WIB, the victim entered the elevator alone to the 28th floor. At 14.57 WIB, the victim exited the elevator and headed to his residential unit, also alone,” said Ady.
“This is a strong indication that the victim fell while repairing the AC,” explained Ady.
JA’s body is currently still under examination by the National Police Headquarters’ Forensic Laboratory Team at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital. The police have also contacted the victim’s family. (P-2)
