Forty years following building her house, a nearly-centenarian woman was evicted from the premises by… her own son.
On June 29, justice did its job. The Latin maxim “Dura lex, sed lex”, to understand “The law is hard, but it is the law”, has perhaps never made so much sense.
Guadeloupe The 1st tells us that a man has obtained the expulsion of his mother from his home. He will have had to wait thirty years to obtain such a result.
Yet the house was built by… his own mother. Aged 99, Lucia Foix had indeed erected this house, when she was sixty years old, to spend her old age there. She had chosen a piece of land that she had rented three years earlier. To avoid too heavy burdens for her children, she then decided to buy this land. Signing a simple promise of sale, until the land was decommissioned, she finally discovered later, not without surprise, that the land, but also with the house, had been sold to Claude… her son!
Guardianship attempt
Initially Claude had tried to put his mother under guardianship. Without success. So, he then decided to evict Lucia without warning from his home. He also believes that he owes her no compensation. The son even demands payment from his mother for the rental of the land. If the court validated the expulsion, it did not however validate the payment of compensation. No element has filtered on the possible motivations of Claude Foix, who will at least have short-circuited his brothers, for this part of the inheritance.
